Me and Dr. Watson

I am a dog person.

With the exception of lemurs, there are no animals I like more.

For 3 years, this dog was my daily companion at work and home. His name is Dr. Watson, a mutt of Rough Collie / Border Collie origin, and I adopted him as a puppy. On nice autumn days like this, I miss my long walks with him. I suspect it will not be very long untill I'll go looking for a dog again.

Watsonaaa

So, yeah. Posterous.

Sometimes 140 characters are not enough.

I've seen Twitter friends putting Posterous to good use recently, and thought of getting one for the Medialux Twitter account. And guess what! You're looking at it. Hopefully a good place to post random thoughts, pictures and soundfiles that don't make it to the website because they are more connected to me personally than to my company.

I'll start with a photograph.

Today I got back my favorite Rolleiflex camera, which I loaned to a friend more than a year ago. That got me all excited about filling my car with photo equipment, thermoses and extra socks and driving to the countryside to shoot pictures of random bits of the Icelandic nature, something I did rather frequently before I got kids :-)

I'm kind of old school when it comes to photography. I have a digital camera, a rather crappy one at that, for shooting snapshots of my kids. For my own work I still cling to the chain of pain that is working with old fashioned film.

The reasons for doing that get killed off one by one, as digital technology surpasses film (whoosh, did you hear that?), but I still have a couple of reasons, I have cameras that I love to work with, and I don't have the money to spend on a DSLR system that would satisfy me, as photography has always been just an expensive hobby for me.

There is also a good reason for that. My photos, or at least the ones I like best myself, aren't of anything. I'll be the first to admit that they aren't spectacular in any way, I prefer shooting things the way they are, rather than putting a lot of work into them. That's a lazy approach, and I think it is the result of having directing commercials for years, where everything you do is produced for a specific purpose.

When I shoot photos, I just put down a tripod, find an angle I like, and do it.

The first picture I post here is from a beautiful beach called Reynisfjara, about 2 hours away from Reykjavík by car. Note that this is not a black and white photo. There just weren't any colors that day.
